The English tenor Guy Cutting offered one of the finest interpretations of the Evangelist that I’ve ever heard. A beautiful voice, well‑coloured, with secure projection, ample range (he reaches the highest notes without the slightest hint of tension or strain… and more than sufficient presence. He commands an exceptionally wide dynamic palette, and his Evangelist had both drama and deep emotion. Sensational.

I have seldom heard an Evangelist who shaped the role with such intensity as Guy Cutting … This outstanding singer embodies every word he speaks: mysterious, solemn, expressive, and always closely attuned to the text. Never intrusive, but restrained, with a flowing, clear, tenor radiance.

The intervention of tenor Guy Cutting provides a welcome contrast: his voice, light but incisive, emerges from the choral fabric naturally and grants a touch of human warmth to pieces that could fall into abstraction.
